What To See In Florence

Florence, Firenze in Italian, is found in the center of Italy's Tuscany region, along the Arno river. It is the capital of the Tuscany and has a population of about 400,000 folk. In the Renaissance, Florence was the center of art, politics and intellectual thought. The town is the largest holiday maker attraction in the region with lots to do and see. The town is sufficiently little to walk to most places, but offers many attractions to keep you interested for weeks : if you'd like to visit Rome, book your appartamenti Firenze before your exit.

The Uffizi gallery is one of the oldest museums in the world ( opened it's doors to the general public in 1765 ) and holds the planet's most important collection of Renaissance art. There are pieces of art by the best artisans in Florence, geniuses such as Botticelli, Brunelleshi, Cellini, Donatello, Fra Angelico, Ghiberti, Giotto, Raffaello, Leonardo and Michelangelo.
You can spend three hours in the Uffizi and not see everything : the collection is giant. There may be more than 700 self portraits of the artists. A lot of them were presented to the gallery by the artist, themselves.
You will be able to see the glorious Birth of Venus by Botticelli. Also in the gallery are works by Leonardo da Vinci and Caravaggio. There are forty five rooms on the second and third floors which comprise of the Uffizi gallery. Each room is about to chronologically show style of painting across the ages. Although you might need to view each one of the beautiful pieces of design, there are more than just paintings. The Uffizi gallery also has statues, tapestries, and a complete room devoted to miniatures.

Piazza del Duomo is found in the historical middle of Florence. It is controlled by the cathedral and related buildings such as Giotto's Campanile and the Baptistery of San Giovanni, although the theoretical line between thru de 'Martelli and thru Calzaiuoli divides the square into 2 sections, with the Baptistery in the square St. John. Ibn this famous Florentine square there are examples of the most significant building of Italy : for instance the "Campanile di Giotto" and the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. The massive cathedral of Florence is among the most vital architectural works of the period between the Gothic and the Renaissance, and one of the largest and most beautiful churches of Europe. Its construction begun, commissioned by the Signoria, in 1296 by architect Arnolfo di Cambio in the location of the ancient cathedral of Santa Reparata. Giotto's bell tower ( the Giotto's campanile ) is located next to the cathedral, originally placed at the side of the cover rather than rearward. It was designed by Giotto, therefore the name, but manufactured by Andrea Pisano and completed by Francesco Talenti and it is 84 meters high.

The Baptistry of John the Baptist is an ornate church that was built in the 11th century :
It is one of Florence's oldest buildings. Its exterior is made from green and white marble and has three sets of fantastic bronze doors ( the originals are in the Duomo Museum ).

A traveller to Italy can never miss visiting the amazing Ponte Vecchio, the Europe's oldest wholly stone, closed-spandrel segmental arch bridge built over the Arno brook in Florence. Also called as the Old Bridge, Ponte Vecchio houses a considerable number of jewelry shops selling antique and designer jewelry.
It is thought this bridge was first built in the Roman times with wood. In 1333, a flood seriously wiped out it after which it was again reconstructed with stone in 1345. Taddeo Gaddi was the master brain behind the look of this fabulous piece. In 1565, Cosimo I de Medici got the famous Vasari Corridor above the bridge. The architect this time was Giorgio Vasari and the corridor connected the Palazzo Vecchio with the Palazzo Pitti.Down the ages, the bridge had been a massive shopping complex. Originally, customers preferred this place due to some tax exemptions. Since 1942, a corporate association of butchers had monopolized this bridge. To maintain the dignity of the bridge, Cosimo I de Medici prohibited the beef shops here. Immediately, gold merchants took the place. Remember booking your appartamento Firenze.
