Race And Ethnicity Factors Dictate Various Tooth Diseases And Problems
Dental disease will strike at every single human being to some extent within their lives. Periodontal disease, dental caries or tooth decay, gingivitis or gum disease and periodontitis otherwise known as pynorhea are all bacterial infections that can cause great damage to the real teeth, jawbone and gums. Read this site if you want tmj symptoms information.
Infections arise from these three factors bacteria, food for the damaging bacteria and of course the host where the bacteria will be residing at. No infectious disease will form in the absence of at least one of these ingredients. The formula for the development of dental problems is very basic but then different factors come in when one talks about the extent of these health woes. Race and ethnicity are two of these health problems.
It was reported by the NIH that a percentage of kids between the months of 12 to 23 already suffer from cavities. Furthermore, 63 percent of kids from 2 to 9 years old were free from cavities in their primary dentition while 55 percent of 5 to 17 year old kids do not have cavities at all in their permanent teeth. There wasn't much of a discrepancy in the cavity experience of boys versus girls from ages 2 to 9 years but then comparing the races, slightly less cavity problems were found in blacks compared to the white kids. Non Hispanic black and white people encounter more cavity problems at this age compared to Mexican Americans.
The permanent teeth in kids 5 to 17 year old do not have one trace of cavity and this is evident 55 percent of the time and without any difference between genders. An in depth scrutiny of the subgroups revealed that the black people were loss prone to tooth decay compared to the Mexican Americans who were more prone to it while on the average, cavity development in white people is close to this. As compared to the adolescent and child population, there seemed to have differences in the cavity and filling trends for adults when it came to ethnic groups and race criteria. Subgroup examination revealed notable differences although there were only very few differences between the sexes. The dental filling or cavity experience of Hispanic whites shrunk to half when it came to that of the the non Hispanic blacks as well as Mexican Americans.
Looking at a general perspective, the Mexican Americans had much fewer cavities compared to their non Hispanic black and white counterparts but they were much more likely to get struck by this. With increasing age, there tends to be a greater exposure of the root surfaces of the teeth to the oral environment. It can be said that this is closely related to a combination of disease processes also a string of other related variables.
It was found that cavities were present in each individual's single or two teeth, without ties to race or or ethnicity of the person. Mainly due to modern dental science and practice, we have seen how in the last few decades, the tooth loss trend shrunk. For respondents ages 18 and above, 30 percent of them still had all of their teeth whereas there was at least a tooth in the mouth of 90 percent of them.
The lower front teeth would be the ones that generally lasted the longest. But then 10 percent in this group was unable to keep even just one tooth. In more cases, more teeth were lost in the upper jaw than in the lower jaw while the molars which are called first and second ones, were the ones commonly missing. In the broader perspective, it is the Mexican Americans with the lowest rate of tooth loss while it is the black non Hispanics with the highest rates.
It is also to be noted that approximately 40 percent exhibited a moderate loss of support to the dentition and 90 percent of those diagnosed had experienced a minor loss of gum and or bone support to the teeth. In this group, 15 percent have developed sever bone support destruction, causing them problems. The effect extends more to men rather than women when it comes to both severity and frequency. Compared to Mexican Americans and non Hispanic blacks, non Hispanic whites generally have better periodontal health.
Survey results from this study proves that the dental health state of people in America varies depending on the person's ethnicity and race, and through the decades, there has been improvement. These improvements are good but are not enough to lessen dental problems from being a huge health trouble but on a lighter note, the friendly dental community are ready to solve these with good dental methods.
